General
What exactly does DebtRecovery.ng do?
+
DebtRecovery.ng is a professional debt recovery and portfolio management company. We help Nigerian banks, microfinance institutions, digital lenders, and fintech platforms recover outstanding loans through tele-collections, field recovery, legal enforcement, asset tracing, and data analytics — all conducted ethically and in compliance with CBN regulations and the NDPR.
Who are your typical clients?
+
We work with commercial banks, microfinance banks (MFBs), digital lending platforms, fintech companies, mortgage institutions, and any other regulated entity in Nigeria that issues credit. Portfolio sizes we handle range from a few million naira to multi-billion naira NPL books. We currently serve over 50 institutions nationwide.
Where do you operate?
+
We operate nationwide across all 36 states and the FCT. Our tele-collections and digital recovery teams are based in Lagos, with field recovery agents deployed across all geopolitical zones. Our legal recovery network covers courts in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano, and other major commercial centres.
How do I get started?
+
The simplest way is to fill in our contact form or call us on +234 (0) 706 896 8837. We'll schedule a free consultation call to discuss your portfolio, the services that fit your situation, and how quickly we can mobilise. Most portfolios are activated within 48 hours of signing.
How long has DebtRecovery.ng been operating?
+
We were founded in 2018 and have been operating continuously since then. Over six years, we've recovered more than ₦40 billion in delinquent debt across more than 50 institutional clients. Our track record spans commercial banking, microfinance, and the Nigerian digital lending ecosystem.
Our Services
How quickly can recovery start after I submit a portfolio?
+
Most portfolios are activated within 48 hours of handoff and signing. Our team segments debtors by risk profile, delinquency stage, and repayment capacity before any contact is made, so the first calls and visits go to the right accounts on the right channel from day one.
What format should I submit portfolio data in?
+
We accept portfolio data in Excel, CSV, or direct API integration with your core banking system. A standard handoff file includes: borrower name, phone number, outstanding balance, loan product type, days past due (DPD), and — for secured loans — collateral details. Our team will provide a data template during onboarding.
Do you handle early-stage delinquency as well as severely overdue accounts?
+
Yes. We handle the full delinquency spectrum. Early-stage accounts (0–60 DPD) typically go through our tele-collections and digital nudge sequences. Mid-stage (60–120 DPD) receive field visits and formal demand notices. Late-stage and severely delinquent accounts are escalated to legal enforcement or asset tracing as appropriate. The right channel is assigned based on the account data, not a one-size-fits-all approach.
Can you handle large volumes — thousands or hundreds of thousands of accounts?
+
Yes. Our tele-collections infrastructure and automated digital outreach systems are designed for high-volume portfolios. Our largest single engagement involved over 120,000 active borrower accounts for a digital lending platform. For very large books, we use automated sequencing for smaller-balance accounts and dedicate agents to higher-value accounts.
Can you trace and verify collateral before we approve a loan, not just after default?
+
Yes — our asset tracing and title due diligence services are available pre-disbursement as well as post-default. Many clients use these proactively as part of their underwriting process to verify collateral existence, ownership, and any prior encumbrances before the loan is issued.
What happens to repossessed assets?
+
Repossessed assets are transferred to secure storage, independently valued by a certified valuer, and disposed of through vetted resale channels. You receive full proceeds reconciliation and a disposal report throughout the process. Nothing is sold without your authorisation, and all documentation is maintained for audit purposes.
Can the repayment portal be white-labeled under our brand?
+
Yes. The self-service repayment portal can be fully white-labeled with your institution's branding, domain, and colour scheme. Borrowers never see the DebtRecovery.ng brand. The portal accepts payments via Paystack and Flutterwave, and supports self-service payment plan setup.
Do you provide reporting and dashboards during the engagement?
+
Yes. All clients receive access to a live recovery dashboard showing portfolio-level KPIs — accounts contacted, promises to pay, actual collections, resolution rates, and agent activity. Monthly insight reports are also delivered, including debtor segmentation analysis and recommendations for your credit underwriting team.
Do you only serve banks, or also fintechs and MFBs?
+
We work with the full range of Nigerian lending institutions — commercial banks, microfinance banks, digital lenders, fintech platforms, mortgage institutions, and cooperative societies. Our recovery strategies are tailored to each client's borrower profile and loan product type.
Pricing
How does your pricing work?
+
We typically work on a contingency basis — a percentage of amounts actually recovered — so there is no upfront cost to engage us. You only pay when we deliver results. The exact percentage varies by portfolio age, size, delinquency stage, and the services required. We'll provide a tailored quote during the consultation call.
Are there any upfront costs or retainer fees?
+
For standard recovery engagements, there are no upfront fees — we work on contingency. Some specialised services (such as pre-disbursement title due diligence, standalone analytics reports, or repayment portal setup) are priced on a project or retainer basis, which will be clearly outlined in the Service Agreement before you commit.
Is there a minimum portfolio size you work with?
+
There is no fixed minimum, but engagements typically become most cost-effective for portfolios of ₦5 million and above. For smaller portfolios, we may recommend a different service structure. Contact us and we'll advise honestly on whether an engagement makes sense for your specific book.
When and how do you invoice?
+
For contingency engagements, fees are calculated and invoiced on a monthly basis based on actual recoveries remitted to you during that month. Payment is due within 14 days of invoice. All fees are subject to applicable Nigerian VAT. Detailed reconciliation statements accompany every invoice.
Compliance & Data
Is your recovery process compliant with CBN regulations?
+
Yes. Every call script, field visit protocol, and escalation path is designed around the CBN Consumer Protection Framework and fair debt collection guidelines. Our legal team reviews compliance quarterly, and all field agents and tele-agents are trained on CBN conduct requirements before they handle any account.
How do you handle borrower data under the NDPR?
+
We process borrower data as a Data Processor under the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) 2019, on behalf of our lending institution clients who act as Data Controllers. All engagements include a Data Processing Agreement (DPA). Borrower data is used only for authorised recovery activities, stored securely, and deleted or returned at engagement end in line with the DPA.
Do you sell or share borrower data with third parties?
+
Never. We do not sell personal data to any third party. The only parties who access borrower data are our own authorised staff, accredited law firm partners (for legal recovery cases), and licensed field agents — all under strict confidentiality agreements and only for the specific recovery purpose. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
What if a borrower complains about how they were treated?
+
All complaints are taken seriously. Borrowers can raise complaints directly with us via our customer support line or email, and we have a formal complaint resolution process with a 5-working-day response commitment. We also maintain a zero-complaint record with the CBN Consumer Protection Department — which is a direct result of our conduct standards, not luck. Substantiated misconduct by any agent results in immediate disciplinary action.
How long do you retain borrower data after an engagement ends?
+
Retention periods are agreed in the Data Processing Agreement, but typically borrower recovery data is retained for up to 7 years from case closure, in line with Nigerian financial record-keeping requirements. After that period, data is securely deleted or anonymised. You can request earlier deletion subject to any legal hold requirements.
Are you registered with NITDA?
+
Yes. DebtRecovery.ng is registered with NITDA (National Information Technology Development Agency) and maintains compliance with NDPR requirements including data audit obligations. Our Data Protection Officer can be contacted at privacy@debtrecovery.ng for any data-related enquiries.
For Borrowers
I received a call from DebtRecovery.ng — is it legitimate?
+
Yes, if you have an outstanding loan with one of our client institutions, it's legitimate. You can verify by calling your lender directly and asking if DebtRecovery.ng has been engaged for your account. Our agents will always identify themselves, name our company, and tell you which lender we're calling on behalf of. We will never ask for your ATM PIN, BVN, or online banking passwords.
Can I negotiate a payment plan?
+
Yes. Our agents are authorised to negotiate structured repayment plans for borrowers who are willing but temporarily unable to pay in full. Payment plans are subject to the lending institution's approval but we actively advocate for arrangements that work for both sides. If you'd like to discuss a plan, call us on +234 (0) 706 896 8837 or use the repayment portal if your lender has activated it for your account.
What rights do I have as a borrower being contacted for debt recovery?
+
Under the CBN Consumer Protection Framework and the NDPR, you have the right to: be treated with dignity and respect at all times; receive clear information about the debt and which institution it is owed to; dispute a debt you believe is incorrect; request that contact be made at reasonable times only; and lodge a complaint if you feel you have been treated improperly. We take these rights seriously and train our staff accordingly.
I want to dispute the debt — what should I do?
+
If you believe a debt is incorrect, contact us immediately on +234 (0) 706 896 8837 or email hello@debtrecovery.ng. We will pause collection activity on the disputed account while the matter is investigated with the lending institution. Disputes are typically resolved within 10 working days.
Can I make a complaint about how I was treated?
+
Yes. Send your complaint to hello@debtrecovery.ng or call +234 (0) 706 896 8837. Include the date, time, agent name (if known), and details of what happened. We commit to a response within 5 working days. If you're not satisfied with our response, you may escalate to the CBN Consumer Protection Department or NITDA.
